Meet the next new pattern designer: My husband

OK, so it's no secret that I like to quilt.  A lot.  I spend a lot of time thinking in quilts, daydreaming about color combinations and block designs.  Apparently, it's starting to rub off.  On my husband.

At dinner last night, whilst waiting for the munchkin to finish his meal (which inevitably takes twice as long as us grown-ups), he grabbed a napkin and one of my pens and started to sketch his own little quilt.

I love how he wants to be involved in something I love so much.  He often tries to put in his two cents with my quilts, whether it's about fabric choices or block design.  I think it's so sweet that he designed his own little quilt.  I might just have to try to make it for him for Father's Day or something as a mini-quilt...though I don't know that he would actually hang a mini-quilt on his wall at work...

  1. How cute! My Dh often tries to give me advice which I rarely take and then backtracks when he realises my idea actually worked and his would not have! Lol! He also listens to me witter on for hours about sewing, the man has the patience of a saint!

  3. That's so cool. It's so great to have a supportive husband. Mine's the same way...always wanting to see what I'm working on and cheering me on. Can't wait to see what you do with the design.

  4. oh, that's so sweet! And I love how the drawing already looks quilted on the napkin. My hubs is colorblind and sometimes I wonder if he thinks my hobby is insane since I don't think he can fully appreciate it.

  6. Just a thought... While he may not hang a "Quilt" on his wall, he might if you framed it.

Target has some really cool frames. I'd look for a simple but attractive square frame approximately 16x16 in size with a 2 inch mat.

Get the frame first, so you know what size to make the quilt...

Create his design in his favorite colors, quilt it with some very thin batting and place it in the frame. Since it won't ever need to be washed, simple felt will work well.

  7. That's so awesome!!! lol!! My husband hasn't gotten to that stage yet, but I do ask him for his feedback when I am combining fabrics for a project (like last night I asked him to pick one of 3 fabrics for the border on the quilt I'm working on). He picked the one that I had been secretly liking the best...good boy :-)

  9. Aren't spouses who are truly interested in our avocation wonderful? And you know what - I should make my hubby a mini quilt to put up at work! I bet he'd love that. I know his coworkers would. ::sigh:: hurry up, UFO list, so I can do new things!!! lol

  12. That's awesome! My husband usually puts his 2 cents in about 10 minutes late! Like he'll tell me he doesn't like a certain fabric after the quilts been pieced together!

  13. Aw, that's so sweet! My husband has great design sense and I often ask him about colours or other random stuff. He doesn't, however, like how quilting looks on a quilt (i.e. he thinks stippling looks like you've scribbled all over the quilt) so everything I do for us to keep has to have very simple quilting. I can live with that.
