Short and sweet

Is it just me, or is there a serious explosion of baby boys these days?  Most of my friends seem to have boys, and all of the babies on the way that I know are boys - so naturally, I've got a lot of boy fabrics in my stash...but I also have a lot of girl fabrics, which tend to collect a lot of dust, because there's so many boy babies...

I had a rough day with my boy yesterday, and felt the need for something girlie, so I whipped up this little (36" square) quilt top, using some leftover Ruby and Bliss charms that have been sitting on my shelf for a while.  Even just cutting into them made me feel infinitely better and happy.

Um...so I started another quilt today

Now, I must go back to my red-and-white zigzag quilt (basting, yay!), but this prettiness is going to stay up on my design wall to make me smile for the next few days.  What are you sewing up this weekend?

  4. see, for me, it's the opposite. i'm surrounded by girls, with only a few boys scattered here and there! but i'm pregnant with a boy, so i need to start transitioning from girl fabrics to boy fabrics, which i'm severely lacking. :)

  5. my baby girl is now 7 months, but it seems like she's the only sheila in a sea of baby boys. it's not just the boys that can be trying though; this week i've been in need of some therapeutic sewing indeed! haven't gotten to do a lot, but every little bit helps! then she smiles, and the sewing doesn't matter anymore... can't help but love that little girl of mine!

  7. I'm just hoping I get a lot of time to sew this weekend. My quilt guild is having a chinese auction next week and we are suppose to donate hand-made items to it. I'm really only a quilt maker, not much on branching out! I made a pot holder the other night and it turned out terrible. It was awful! Hoping to try again today.

  8. This is so cute and refreshing--definitely leave it on the design wall! I would just be happy to be sewing ANYTHING this weekend as I have spent the whole week with an on-site computer guy trying to get my new hard drive to work with old software. It's been challenging but I think things are finally playing nicely together. Oops. Hope I didn't just jinx things...

  11. What a pretty wee top. Thankfully none of my friends are exploding with babies right now, so I have none to make quilts for. I've tried persuading them to get to it, but none of them are biting so far... ;o)

  17. I hear ya on the baby boy thing going on. I have made 4 baby boy quilts as gift this year and 0 for girls. I actually made a couple of girl quilts as charity quilts cuz I love all the cute little girlie fabrics :) And just like you, they made me smile. Love your top, it makes me smile too!

  18. What a super cute quilt!
I just had my third baby (a Boy after two girls) and it definitely seems to be the year of the boy this year. I've made three boy quilts this year and not a single frilly girl one.

  19. I'm finishing the quilting on a pumpkin tablerunner to take to my sister-in-law for Thanksgiving. Then, I'll load the frame with a memory quilt top for a customer. What an honor to be a part in project for his son. Next, an attempt to convert a photo of my daughter into an art quilt!
