Hello Thirteen

On this last Monday of 2012, I find myself wondering where the year went! Admittedly, it was a busy year full of lots of exciting things, many of which I still can't share, but I have to say, as awesome as 2012 was, I think 2013 is shaping up to be even more exciting.

2012quilts2

I'm awfully proud of the quilts I've made this year. If you asked me to pick a favorite, I don't think I could! I was lucky enough to see my work in print again this year, which was wonderful, and I loved seeing photos of my quilts hanging at Fall Quilt Market.

2012quilts1

I'm sad to see that all three of the bees I participated in this year will not be continuing into 2012. But perhaps the pile of bee blocks in a bucket in my sewing room will have time to become the quilts they've always wanted to be :)

2012bees

I'm also really proud of the patterns and tutorials I've written this year, and the Lucky Stars Block of the Month Club I'm starting for 2013. I cannot get over how many people are participating in the Lucky Stars BOM, and it seems to continue growing every day! This BOM is definitely going to make my 2013 very starry and bright.

Teaching was another really bright spot of my year. I'm finding that I really enjoy getting to work hands on with my students, and am looking forward to a lot more teaching in 2013. I loved teaching at Sewing Summit, and teaching in my local quilt shop back home has also been a great experience. The girls there are so welcoming and nice, and my students have been such a joy to work with.

Happy New Year to you and your family. Thank you for all of the kind and wonderful comments you leave here on my blog, I really appreciate each and every one. And because I appreciate you, my wonderful followers, so much, I'm giving away a Happy New Year gift - a fat quarter bundle of Bonnie & Camille's Vintage Modern collection. 42 glorious, beautiful fat quarters, just for you! And I'm really looking forward to 2013 and piecing some Lucky Stars with you. 2012 has had some fantastic moments, it's hard to pick just one - on a quilty front, finishing my Farmer's Wife quilt is high up on the list. Non-quilty I think it was a combination of the atmosphere of the summer in the UK - Olympics and Jubilee, and the family holidays we were on for both! Happy New Year!

  31. Happy New Year. The brightest point of 2012 is that my first husband and I are finally friends again! We had an ugly, ugly divorce in 1998 and had not spoken until October of this year. We walked our daughter down the aisle in 2004 and sat through her wedding without speaking to each other. We had each blamed the other for the divorce after 23.5 years of marriage and two children. Now, we don't talk about the bad, we only talk about good things. We each are different people and have learned from our own mistakes. We have two children and three grandchildren that all need to have both of us in their lives peacefully. I'm thinking about making a quilt for him - he may have to go to a physical rehab center when he has surgery on a foot and a hip. Quilts speak a healing language, too! Thank you for your inspiration to all of us!

  131. My brightest moment of 2012 was getting my Singer Featherweight for Christmas from my husband. I always wanted one and he paid top dollar to get me one of the shiniest most perfect one available. I love it. I named her Fredricka after my great grandmother who passed away years ago. Happy New Year! I have enjoyed your blog this past year.

Brightest moments have really been all the little things my three kids do that make me so proud of them, eg 9yo daughter winning an academic award for year 3, 6yo sons starting school and professing so quickly with his reading, 3yo sons learning about numbers and alphabet. Brightest quilting moment was winning most successful exhibitor and best article in show at our local agricultural show.

  175. Not a brightest memory but many small delights - things my kids achieved and hurdles overcome. I suppose the best thing that came to me was a patchwork class i took earlier in the year - very addictive and therapeutic - love it.

  178. My brightest moment of 2012 was on Christmas Eve when my 10 year old Granddaughter kissed me for the first time since she was about 3 years old!!! She suddenly went all silly about kissing people and sometimes wouldn't even allow you to kiss her, but would NEVER kiss you, so when she told me on Christmas Eve that she had a special present for me, and than came up and plonked a lovely big kiss on my cheek I could have cried! Funny how little things mean so much, isn't it?

    Happy New Year

  182. Brightest moment was my husband recovering from open-heart surgery!

  183. My brightest memory? I'm feeling too blessed to pick just one. My 29 yr, old daughter lost her husband in a tragic fall while roofing in June of 2011. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl that following November. She and her 4 yr, old son, Brady have done a wonderful job of welcoming Abbey and making a delightful, thriving little family. While deeply saddened I have watched my daughter become everything I ever could have hoped for - strong, independent, beyond loving and oh, so caring of everyone around her. When I think of her and the bright smile her children bring to her, it melts my heart. I have two other daughters and two more grandchildren who have been at her side through it all and I could go on about them also, but will save you from that. We've truly found the meaning of family and I am so proud. Elizabeth, I am Julie from Minnesota and your posts have brought so many bright moments to my days. Thank you!

  184. 2012 has been a difficult year healthwise for me and, therefore, my family. However, there were many bright moments including seeing our little granddaughter enjoying her gift from us ( via Father Christmas, of course!), the scooter she has been looking forward to for weeks and weeks. She loved it and demonstrated her new-found skill throughout Christmas Day.

Now my machine is at a window -- great light! We converted my son's bedroom after he moved out. Improved shelving is the goal this year. soparkaveataoldotcom

  196. My brightest memories of 2012 revolve around time spent with our 3 adult children and their families and the birth of granddaughter Mia in June. My brightest quilting memory is from completing the first large quilt I have ever made, a King size created from 2" half square triangles from an exchange started on a TQS blog from around the world. The world of quilting and learning about blogs has changed my retirement world!

  200. Wow! There are so many blessings in the last year for me that it is hard to pick just one. My grand daughter was born and the day they finally let us hold her was an amazing day. For the first 9 days no one got to hold her as she was in an isoelet (sp?) in intensive care. She is so cute and almost healthy. I am very thankful for that and I got to make her a qiilt and some sleepers.
